The same book on Amazon KDP and IngramSpark
One layout, two uploads. Amazon often wants the interior in RGB; Ingram, a named CMYK. The jacket may need its own wrap.
Wanting the same book on Amazon and in bookstores (IngramSpark) is reasonable. It is not one button “send to both.” Two platforms, two title forms, sometimes two colour rules and two cover molds. Text and trim can be the same. The file you upload, not always.
Interior: on Path A (Word) or Path B (PDF/Canva) you lay out once: the same 6×9 (or whichever trim you chose), the same paper, the same chapters, the same bleed if it applies. You pay one session and, without closing the tab, download RGB — what KDP Print often wants for the interior — and the CMYK Ingram named (GRACoL, FOGRA, SWOP, Japan Color, coated or not). That is not magic “one PDF for the whole planet.” It is the same layout, two ink recipes. Interior paper must match the profile: do not send magazine coated GRACoL to a cream interior.
Cover: spine width is pages × stock thickness. If Ingram and Amazon use different papers, the wrap is not interchangeable. Path D builds a one-piece PDF (back, spine, front) from the interior parameters. If you change paper or page count for one of the two, you return to D. Hardcover and paperback do not share a mold: board, hinge, and extra wrap.
Signatures: on both, digital POD is usually in 4s. Close the PDF on a multiple of 4 (or the 16 an offset plant asked for) so the spec sheet and the jacket speak the same number. Ingram sometimes says they will add a manufacturing leaf; still, an even count and an honest spine avoid surprises.
I do it in this order: interior on A or B → look at the page-count and spine spec → jacket on D → download RGB for Amazon and Ingram’s CMYK in the same interior session → upload each pair of files to its platform, with the same trim written on both title forms. Two review queues. One book.
